MSK Imaging.

Musculoskeletal system is composed by all structures of the human body that can move. It includes the bony skeleton, joints (including cartilage, synovium, ligaments …) and muscles (muscle belly, tendons, fascia).
Musculoskeletal injuries are common. In addition to natural aging which can cause pain and impotence, traumatic, inflammatory and tumor lesions can affect the structures of the musculoskeletal system.

Medical Imaging (formerly “radiology”) can analyze all forms of lesions of the musculoskeletal system. Techniques that are used for this purpose are in order from the least to the most expensive:

  • ultrasound
  • radiographs
  • CT scanner
  • MRI
  • scintigraphy

Choosing the right imaging technique depends on the type of disease  and on the organ to explore. Several types of examination techniques can explore the same pathology. We can consider that there is hierarchy in the use of different techniques ranging from least to most expensive, from least to most invasive.
We propose here to take stock of the different pathologies of the device Locomotor through our experience and analysis articles in the literature to extract a better idea indications, expected benefits of the different exams imaging either for the patient or practitioner.
